Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) would like to invite the public and interested parties to comment on the recently completed draft Environmental Assessment (EA) entitled Shakerag Water Reclamation Facility Right-of-Way Request, Forsyth County, Georgia. The proposed project would entail the granting of a right-of way to the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department (FCWSD) for the installation of an underground outfall diffuser pipe system in the bank and bed of the Chattahoochee River just north of McGinnis Ferry Bridge in Forsyth County. The purpose of this document is to evaluate aspects of the proposed action which have the potential to impact environmental and cultural resources within the boundaries or viewsheds of CRNRA.

Two alternatives for the project are evaluated in the EA: the No-Action Alternative and the Proposed Action Alternative. The No-Action Alternative represents the continued operation of the existing Land Application System (LAS). The No-Action Alternative would continue to rely on outdated LAS strategies to accommodate increased customer demands. The Proposed Action Alternative would discharge up to 6.0 million gallons per day of reclaimed water to the Chattahoochee River between river miles 340 and 341. The proposed discharge would increase the capacity and operational flexibility in the Forsyth County beneficial reuse system.
