Beginning October 4, a contract tree service company will be removing hazardous trees at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Trees and brush will be removed along roads and parking areas in a number of units in the park. In addition, trees and vegetation will be cleared in and around historic structures associated with the Marietta Paper Mill ruins located along Sope Creek in the Cochran Shoals unit. Removal of vegetation around the paper mill ruins and retaining walls is intended to prevent further damage to the structures from the growth of roots and limbs. Park visitors are reminded to keep a safe distance from tree felling operations and adhere to directions provided by the tree service company.
