The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is happy to announce that the parking lot restoration project for the Gold Branch Unit has been completed. The parking lot is now open during regular park hours. The old gravel parking lot was expensive to maintain and has been replaced with a new parking lot paved with pervious concrete. The pervious concrete allows rain water to soak through reducing run off.
The Gold Branch parking lot is located in east Cobb County on Lower Roswell Road between Johnson Ferry Road and the intersection of Timber Ridge Road and Willeo Road. The area is regularly used by hikers, runners, and persons fishing. The area is also popular for its spring and summer wildflower displays, especially its native rhododendrons and azaleas. Trails wind through hardwood forests and along Bull Sluice Lake created by Morgan Falls Dam. More information on the Gold Branch Unit, including trail maps, can be found at www.nps.gov/chat. |
