Chattahoochee River Offers Free Admission Tomorrow, Saturday, June 9

Sandy Springs, GA: Get a head start on your summer fun with free admission to Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area tomorrow, Saturday, June 9. In celebration of National Get Outdoors Day, all 397 national parks, including Chattahoochee River, will waive entrance fees.

"Outdoor physical activity is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a great place to get out and enjoy hiking, running, and paddling in one of the Atlanta metro area's largest green spaces," said Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Superintendent Patty Wissinger."The three dollar entry fee we normally collect at all our boat ramps and sites will be waived tomorrow for National Get Outdoors Day, so it's a great chance to enjoy the park."

"Tomorrow is a special day for us because we will be co-hosting the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper's Back to the Chattahoochee River Race," Wissinger added. "It's a great opportunity to enjoy the park while supporting a partner organization dedicated to preserving the river."

National Get Outdoors Day, now in its fifth year, encourages Americans, especially youth, to participate in outdoor activities while enjoying the beauty of public lands such as national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges. Nationwide, hundreds of organizations and businesses will partner with Federal, state, and local agencies to provide fun and healthy events at sites throughout the country.

President Barack Obama has proclaimed the month of June as Great Outdoors Monthand encourages all Americans to share in the natural splendor of which we are all proud inheritors.

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will waive its $3 entrance fee on four more days in 2012 - September 29 (National Public Lands Day) and November 10 to 12 (Veterans Day weekend).

If you are planning additional trips to Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, you might consider purchasing an annual pass for $25. For trips that include multiple national parks, there is an $80 annual pass that provides entrance to all national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and many other Federal lands - more than 2,000 in all. This America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass is offered free to all active duty military members and their dependents.
