Abbotts Bridge Unit, a popular area along the forty-eight mile Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area river corridor, is closed due to a bridge failure. Heavy rainstorms experienced in the area over the past few days has caused a tributary stream of the Chattahoochee River to overflow and undercut the entrance roadway. The serious erosion has undercut two stream culverts, which is causing the roadway to collapse. The entrance road is no longer safe for vehicle and pedestrian access. The Federal Highway Administration is working with the park to restore access to the area as quickly as possible. This area of the park will remain closed until further notice. |
