Chamizal National Memorial to Host Celebration of Community Artists and Volunteers
Chamizal National Memorial Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez announces that the park will host a celebration of community and accomplishment in the Memorial's Spanish Garden on Tuesday, April 28th at 6:30 p.m.
Among those to be honored are local, world-renowned artists Carlos and Marcos Flores for completion of the year-long restoration of the Nuestra Herencia (Our Heritage) mural, wildlife artist and sculptor Julio Sanchez de Alba for his ongoing long-term loan of Thunder Bull II, the bison sculpture that has been majestically gracing the National Memorial's Esplanade since last fall, and many of our volunteers who have so generously shared their time and talents with us over the past two years.
We invite you to come see the recently completed restoration of the vibrant, complex mural that pays homage to our shared heritage and cultures of El Paso and the borderlands, Nuestra Herencia (Our Heritage). Come explore some of the changes featured in the mural that capture additional historic events that have taken place here since the original mural was painted in 1992 as well as other changes to the Memorial grounds.
"In April each year we celebrate many things in America's National Parks, including National Parks Month, National Junior Ranger Day( Saturday, April 25th from 1-4 p.m.), Earth Day, and Volunteerism. This year at Chamizal National Memorial, we are excited to celebrate all of those things and more. These magnificent works of art are just a few examples of some of the Legacy projects occurring at Chamizal National Memorial as part of the Memorial's ongoing 50th Anniversary commemoration and leading up to the National Park Service Centennial in 2016," says Superintendent Sanchez.
We invite you to come meet and mingle with these talented artists and some of our community volunteers while you enjoy a spring evening in our Spanish Garden. Catering of light refreshments will be provided by Chile Chipoltle.

Chamizal National Memorial Celebra los Artistas y Voluntarios de la Comunidad
El director de Chamizal National Memorial, F. Gus Sanchez, anuncia una celebración de los logros de este año y el espíritu comunitario para el martes, 28 de abril a las 6:30 p.m. en el jardín español.
Entre los homenajeados son artistas locales de renombre mundial, Carlos y Marcos Flores, para la finalización de la restauración del mural Nuestra Herencia;artista de la fauna y escultor Julio Sánchez de Alba por el préstamo de largo plazo de Thunder Bull II (Toro Tronador II), la escultura del bisonte que ha adornado majestuosamente la plaza del parque nacional desde otoño del año pasado;y muchos de nuestros voluntarios que tan generosamente han compartido su tiempo y talentos con nosotros durante los últimos dos años.
Le invitamos venir a ver la recién terminada restauración del vibrante y complejo mural, Nuestra Herencia, que rinde homenaje al legado y cultura de El Paso y la zona fronteriza. Venga a explorar algunos de los cambios que aparecen en el mural que capturan los eventos históricos que han tomado lugar aquí desde que el mural original fue pintado en 1992, así como otros cambios en los terrenos del parque.
"En los parques nacionales de Estados Unidos, hay muchas celebraciones cada año en el mes de abril, inclusive el Mes de Parques Nacionales, Día Nacional de Jóvenes Guardaparques (el sábado, 25 de abril de 1-4 p.m.), Día de la Tierra, y el voluntariado. Este año en Chamizal National Memorial, estamos muy contentos de poder celebrar los días nacionales y más. Estas magníficas obras de arte son sólo unos ejemplos de algunos de los proyectos que contribuyen al legado de Chamizal National Memorial y son parte de la continuación del 50 aniversario del parque y el centenario del National Park Service que ocurre en 2016," dice el Director Sanchez.
