Summer Teacher Professional Development Workshop Offered at Chamizal National Memorial
Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez is pleased to announce another summer professional development opportunity for teachers being offered at Chamizal National Memorial. On Wednesday, August 5th the Memorial will offer a free one-day workshop to help teachers of all grade levels and subject areas prepare for the coming school year by providing information and curriculum-based education materials, activities, and lesson plans available to teachers and their students. Some of the planned workshop activities will include learning the Chamizal story through our interactive river table model; testing and providing feedback on new programming developed by this summer's Teacher Corps Interns; and learning about other student outreach programming planned for the upcoming school year. Teachers will also learn more about the National Park Service and its upcoming Centennial as well as Chamizal National Memorial's 50thanniversaries in 2016. This workshop will be offered again later in the summer or fall in order to accommodate the different schedules of our many local school districts.
"We are excited to offer teachers multiple professional development opportunities this summer. The goals of these opportunities are for teachers to meet and collaborate with park staff, pilot test programs to actively engage them and their students in learning about our local history and its place in the broader international history of U.S.-Mexico relations here. I invite you to come see how the park can be an educational resource for you and your students," said Sanchez.
