Chamizal to begin new story time program for children.

Chamizal National Memorial is announcing the beginning of a free story time program for preschool children. The first book reading is set for Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. and will be held in Los Paisanos Gallery at Chamizal National Memorial. Future book readings will be held the third Thursday of the month starting November 19th through the month of May.

This new program will provide children with an opportunity to hear stories about friendship, cooperation, peace, and diplomacy. It will also allow students to interact with El Paso's poet and entertainer, Georgena Askew of Face On Face Off. The children can also participate in creative activities based on story themes of friendship, peace, and diplomacy. The memorial is encouraging schools, daycares, and families to participate in the reading program and bring their lunch for a picnic in the beautiful green space at Chamizal National Memorial. There are limited accommodations for participation and the public is asked to call in advance for reservations.

Chamizal National Memorial is founded on the peaceful resolution to a nearly 100-year boundary dispute between Mexico and the United States. Chamizal National Memorial strives to instill the spirit of peace, friendship, and diplomacy through its educational programming and the visual and performing arts. As a unit of the National Park Service, Chamizal National Memorial shares the goal of preserving our nation's history, culture, and landscapes for our future generations.
