Chamizal National Memorial and Los Paisanos de El Chamizal partners are excited to announce details about this year's 38th Annual International Siglo de Oro Drama Festival and pre-Festival events.

There will be several free showings of the film "Lope" about the life of Lope de Vega, the most prolific playwright of Spain's Golden Age of art, literature, and drama or the Siglo de Oro and a contemporary of famous English playwright William Shakespeare. This is the world premiere of this film outside of Spain.  This year's Festival will include two plays written by Lope de Vega. A member of Los Paisanos de El Chamizal will be selling advanced tickets for the Siglo de Oro Festival performances at each showing of the film. Showings at Chamizal National Memorial are scheduled for:

·        February 1 at 7 p.m.

·        February 16 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

·        February 24 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

·        March 1 at 7 p.m.

·        March 3 at 1:30 p.m.

There are additional "Lope" showings scheduled at other venues around El Paso as well. For a complete film schedule listing all dates and locations, please visit our Friends Group's website at www.los-paisanos-chamizal.org.

On Saturday, February 23 the Memorial will be hosting a free teacher workshop in preparation for the Festival. The workshop will provide teachers with information and lesson plans related to the Siglo de Oro to help prepare their students for educational outreach programs and feature performances by Eden Enterprises. This workshop is being sponsored by a generous grant from our partners at Western National Parks Association. To register or for more information, teachers should contact Education Specialist Martin Christiansen at 915-532-7273 x130 or via email at e-mail us.
