On Wednesday, October 19th at 7 p.m., Chamizal National Memorial will host The Chance Ensemble presenting a special narrative concert entitled John Muir –University of Wilderness in the Cultural Center's indoor theater. This unique concert will incorporate multiple musical styles and traditions, including contemporary, Celtic, and classical with the writings of John Muir woven throughout. This special anniversary program is free and first come, first seated.

Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez reminds us, as the National Park Service celebrates its Centennial year, that "Muir was an icon who, as a private citizen dedicated to the exploration and protection of wild and natural places, was instrumental in the creation of the National Park System. His passion and commitment to wild places is something we can still appreciate today and continues to serve as an inspiration for countless others as his legacy lives on in national parks and elsewhere. We invite you to join us on this reflective journey."

This unique concert is part of the ongoing celebrations in 2016 of the National Park Service Centennial and Chamizal National Memorial's 50th anniversary. While you are waiting for the theater doors to open, we invite you to also explore our new temporary museum exhibits and see our renovated visitor information desk, both of which are among a variety of projects accomplished this year in commemoration of these milestone anniversaries. For questions, visit our website at www.nps.gov/cham or call the park at 915-532-7273.
