Chamizal National Memorial (NMEM) is rolling out new programs for young visitors just in time for spring! Drop In Saturdays is a monthly program full of crafty, cultural fun at the Chamizal. Kids ages 5-11 and their chaperones are invited to come have fun at the memorial every third Saturday of the month. Each 45-minute session begins at 10:30 am in the visitor center and focuses on underlying themes related to the park such as friendship, diversity, commonalities among different cultures, and creative problem solving. Upcoming sessions include: April 17th a focus on Japanese Paper Egg Figurines and May 22nd a focus on Mexican Tin Art. Programs are limited to 20 people and participation is on a first-come basis. Just drop on in for this free program! Children's Bookreading is a free one hour story-time program for preschool children. Books highlighting stories about friendship, peace, and diplomacy are featured every third Thursday of the month. While this program is free of charge, reservations for participation are required since there is limited space available. Programs begin at 10:00 am in the park's Los Paisanos Gallery. This month's session on April 15 will feature eco-friendly stories. For more information on either of these programs, contact park staff at 915-532-7273 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/cham. |
