Saturday, April 25th Chamizal National Memorial Will Celebrate
National Junior Ranger Day
As part of National Parks Week, Chamizal National Memorial will celebrate National Junior Ranger Day with special programs and activities for kids of all ages from 1- 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th.
At 1 p.m., Superintendent F. Gus Sanchez will conduct the opening ceremony in the Spanish Garden, followed by an Arrowhead talk orienting participants to the National Park Service and some of the special things and places we help protect, then provide an overview of the afternoon's activities.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., participants will be able to choose what they want to do next from the following options, including Ranger-led programs such as fun walking tours starting at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., animal tracks programs starting at2 p.m. and 3 p.m., and a variety of ongoing activity stations including a Junior Ranger Scavenger Hunt, making and learning to use their own special Junior Ranger binoculars, Chalk the Chamizal art activity, visiting the River Table to learn about the story behind the creation of Chamizal National Memorial, taking their picture in the Junior Ranger photo cutout, and completing their Junior Ranger booklet.
At 3:40 p.m., we will hold the closing ceremony which will include the swearing in of the new Junior Rangers, issuing their badges and patches, a chance to take a picture with Chami, the Spotted Ground Squirrel, learning about other opportunities to have fun and get involved here in El Paso. Be on the lookout for Chami, the Spotted Ground Squirrel, who enjoys greeting visitors, especially Junior Rangers. All programs and materials are free.
Chamizal National Memorial is one of over 400 units of the National Park System. "Every April in conjunction with celebrating the anniversary of the original Earth Day in 1970, the National Park Service celebrates a similar legacy of caring for the planet as well as these special places called national parks that hold the stories of our shared history and culture as Americans. National parks care for special places that are part of the American story and include well-known natural national parks such as Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon but also places that honor people and places that have helped shape our nation, such as Independence Hall, Little Bighorn and Gettysburg. The National Park System also includes this special place, Chamizal National Memorial, where we commemorate the peaceful resolution of an international boundary dispute between the United States and Mexico that lasted 100 years and celebrate that legacy of ongoing international friendship and shared cultures," says Superintendent Sanchez.

El Día Nacional de Jóvenes Guardaparques
Durante National Parks Week (Semana de Parques Nacionales), Chamizal National Memorial celebrará National Junior Ranger Day (Día Nacional de Jóvenes Guardaparques) el sábado, 25 de abril, de la 1 a 4 p.m. con actividades para "jóvenes" de cualquier edad.
A la 1 p.m., el director F. Gus Sanchez dará la bienvenida en el jardín español. Después habrá una charla sobre la punta de flecha, el símbolo del National Park Service, para presentar a los participantes unos de los recursos y lugares que protegemos.Finalmente habrá un resumen de la programación de actividades de la función.
Entre la 1:30 p.m. y las 3:30 p.m., los participantes pueden escoger qué hacer de una variedad de actividades tales como una búsqueda del tesoro, fabricar binoculares caseros, pintar la plaza con tiza, asistir una demostración de los movimientos del río Grande y cómo afectó la creación de Chamizal National Memorial, posar de guardaparque en la cabina de fotos, y llenar el cuaderno de actividades de jóvenes guardaparques. Además hay actividades programadas a ciertas horas. A la 1:30 p.m. y 2:30 p.m., hay giras del parque dirigidas por un guardaparque y a las 2 p.m. y 3 p.m., hay actividades que tratan de reconocer las huellas y señas de animales.
A las 3:40 p.m., habrá una clausura inclusive el recital del juramento de los jóvenes guardaparques, la entrega de sus placas y parches, una última oportunidad de tomar fotos con Chami la ardilla terrestre, e información sobre otras oportunidades y diversiones disponibles en El Paso. Manténganse atentos durante el evento para poder ver a Chami, nuestra mascota, porque le gusta saludar a los visitantes, más que todo a los jóvenes guardaparques. Todas las actividades y los materiales son gratis.
Chamizal National Memorial es uno de más de 400 parques en el sistema de parques nacionales. El sistema de parques nacionales también incluye este lugar especial, Chamizal National Memorial, donde se conmemora la resolución pacífica de un conflicto del límite internacional entre los Estados Unidos y México que duró 100 años y celebramos el legado en curso de la amistad internacional y culturas compartidas," dice Director Sanchez.
