National Park Service Announces Park Advisory Commission Meeting to be Held December 20th


Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park announces the next meeting of the Park Advisory Commission will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Strasburg Town Hall, 174 East King Street, Strasburg, Virginia. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public. 

The December 20 meeting will include updates on several new projects, including park signage, a new park brochure and the park's new Visitor Contact Station. In addition, the proposed realignment of Cedar Creek and Belle Grove NHP with Shenandoah National Park will be discussed. 

Individuals who are interested in the park, these projects and topics, or the business of the Advisory Commission are encouraged to attend the December 20, 2012 meeting. Questions may be directed to Diann Jacox, Park Superintendent at (540) 868-9176.

About Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park:Cedar Creek and Belle Grovecommemorates a nationally significant Civil War landscape and antebellum plantation by sharing the story of Shenandoah Valley history from early settlement through the Civil War and beyond. The park is located within the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District, a National Heritage Area.

Created on December 19, 2002, the park encompasses approximately 3,700 acres across three counties and includes the key partner sites of Belle Grove Plantation (owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and managed by Belle Grove, Inc.), Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation lands and Headquarters, Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation lands, and a developing Shenandoah County Park. The partner sites continue to be owned and operated independently.
