Resource Stewardship Scout and Girl Scout Ranger

The Resource Stewardship Scout and Girl Scout Ranger programs invites Scouts to participate in educational and/or volunteer service projects at national park sites to spark their awareness of the national parks and to provide Scouts with the opportunity to explore the national parks and learn more about protecting our natural and cultural resources. Scouts are awarded patches for participating in the program.

Two oval patches aligned vertically. Top reads "Resource Stewardship Girl Scout Ranger", bottom reads "Resource Stewardship Scout Ranger". Both have NPS and Scout logos in center.

Geology Merit Badge

Capulin Volcano National Monument offers a unique opportunity to study geology. Rangers have developed a workbook and activities to help boy scouts earn their geology merit badge during their visit to our park. Some or all of the requirements for the geology merit badge can be fulfilled using the workbook; however, Scoutmasters must review the workbook and determine if scouts have completed their requirements. This workbook and associated activities are designed to be done as a group. Remember, Capulin Volcano employees are not registered Merit Badge Councilors. Scouts should refer to the District Merit Badge Councilor list available from their Scoutmaster. For more information about this opportunity contact the park via e-mail or by calling (575) 278-2201. Download the workbook here.

Fee Waiver for Volunteer Groups

According to NPS policy, Boy Scouts of America do not qualify for a fee waiver as an academic institution. However, entrance fees at Capulin Volcano can be waived should the group be willing to perform a volunteer service project. For more information about this opportunity contact the park via e-mail or by calling (575) 278-2201.
