Ms. Lisa Nielsen and
Mr. Jeff Filosa, have joined the Catoctin Mountain Park Staff as Administrative
Officer and Chief Ranger, respectively. Lisa Nielsen, a
Wisconsin native, whose National Park Service career spans 30 years, has worked
in a variety of park disciplines including interpretation, maintenance and
administration. She began her career as a seasonal Park Technician on the
National Mall and Memorial Parks followed by work at the C&O Canal, Great Falls
District. Her career has taken her across the country to multiple parks
from Boston National Historical Park to Lake Clark and Katmai National Parks
and Preserves in Alaska. Living in the Maryland mountains is a change of
pace for Ms. Nielsen who was the Administrative Officer at Cumberland Island
National Seashore in Saint Marys, Georgia prior to accepting the position at
Catoctin Mountain Park. Mr. Jeff Filosa graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst with a degree in Natural Resource Studies. Law enforcement has been his primary duty during his entire 10 year career with the National Park Service. Mr. Filosa's career path has taken him to Cape Cod National Seashore, Independence National Historical Park, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, and most recently Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He and his wife will be living in Catoctin Mountain Park with their Australian cattle dog. Mr. Filosa is happy to assume the role of Chief Ranger and looks forward to the great opportunities that both Catoctin and the region as a whole will provide. Catoctin Mountain Park is one of over 400 units administered by the
National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The park Visitor
Center, located on State Route 77 three miles west of Thurmont, Maryland, is
open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
