Additional events and programs will take place as well, so please check our website at www.nps.gov/cato for updates. Programs are offered at the national park or at other locations in conjunction with partners, such as the Frederick County Library system. There is no charge for any of the listed programs. March 8 - National Park Service History Location: Smithsburg, MD Public Library.Time: 7:00 p.m.Join in the celebration as "America's Best Idea" turns 100. The National Park Service was created in 1916 to protect some of America's greatest places. Learn about some of those special places and how the agency has grown during the past 100 years. Find out how you can join in the celebration and "Find Your Park". The program will include slides of some of the "crown jewels", and some of the lesser known parks. March 13,19,20,26 - Orienteering Classes Location:Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center.Time: 1:00 p.m.Learn to read a map and compass;then practice those skills outdoors on the park's orienteering course.Maps and compasses will be provided.This can be an individual, family, or small group activity.Pre-registration is required and space is limited.Call the Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center to sign up, 301-663-9388.
