St. Augustine, FL – The National Park Service will reenact the change of flags between the Spanish and the British in 1763, on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Visitors will see the changing of the guard, the massing of the Spanish and British Troops, the exchange of the keys, and the changing of the flags. The event will be carried out by re-enactors portraying Spanish and British soldiers. Re-enactors dressed in the traditional clothes of the period will also be present representing the townspeople throughout the day. Event includes musket and cannon firing demonstrations.
Park rangers and volunteers of the Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments, the St. Augustine Garrison, & Florida Living History Inc. are sponsoring the day’s activities.
