Local National Monuments Closed for Thanksgiving

St. Augustine, FL – In honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday, Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments will both be CLOSED on Thursday, November 24, 2016.
 
Please join us for our annual “Holiday Open House” at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Park Rangers and volunteers will bring the history of the Castillo to life at this free, community event. Experience the Castillo after dark and mingle with the soldiers, sailors, marines, and civilians who have served within the Castillo’s walls.


 
Built by the Spanish in St. Augustine to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument preserves the oldest masonry fortification in the continental United States and interprets more than 450 years of cultural intersections.  
 
Fort Matanzas National Monument preserves the fortified watchtower, completed in 1742, which defended the southern approach to the Spanish military settlement of St. Augustine, and protects approximately 300 acres of Florida coastal environment.
