St. Augustine, FL – Starting on June 1, 2018, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will increase entrance fees for visitors in order to fund important maintenance and improvement projects within the park. The entrance fee increase will change the price from $10 per adult to $15 per adult. Children ages 15 and under are admitted free of charge and that will not change. The Castillo Annual Pass will also go up in price, from $40 to $45. Fort Matanzas will continue to be free of charge. "This increase in fees will allow us to continue to protect, preserve and share the Castillo de San Marcos with current visitors and future generations," said Superintendent Gordie Wilson. "After carefully considering public input and the impact of a fee increase on visitors and community members, we came to the conclusion that this is the right course of action to improve facilities and services important to visitors." Entrance fees will continue supporting a wide range of projects that improve the park and visitor experiences, including historic weapons demonstrations, ranger-led interpretive programs, and countless masonry projects to preserve the oldest masonry fortification within the continental United States. Additional revenue from this fee increase will allow the park to tackle even more historic preservation projects at the Castillo.
