With over four million annual visits and diverse operations required to protect these resources and provide for public enjoyment, the national seashore manages a complex infrastructure system.
Infrastructure by the numbers:24 miles of paved roadsSeveral hundred miles of unpaved and fire roads 6 beach bathhouses 13 restroom buildings 10 Public water systems 12 miles of bike trails 24 1/4 miles on 12 designated walking trails 70 septic systems 2 visitor centers, 18,900 square feet 1 food concession building 3 road bridges 2.5 miles of boardwalk 2800 parking spaces 80 occupied houses 300 buildings in the park, 44 of which are historic 2 amphitheaters 2 maintenance buildings 2 auto shops 2 ranger headquarters 3 laboratories 60 water systems, 10 of which are major public systems 6 public beaches 365 acres of maintained landscapes Approximately 100 vehicles 30 pieces of heavy equipment Currently, Cape Cod National Seashore’s has $48.9 million in deferred maintenance. Several major projects are underway or planned to repair and rehabilitate infrastructure to reduce the deferred maintenance backlog.
