The Special Use Permit program provides for agricultural use and/or livestock grazing on certain parcels of land within Buffalo National River. Agriculture places a very important role in managing the park landscape. Through these permits, Buffalo National River preserves the unique agricultural history of the area and continues providing important habitat for game animals, such as elk and deer, and non-game animals, such as ground nesting birds and small mammals.

Agricultural Special Use Permits within Buffalo National River are issued through a competitive selection process. When permits become available for specific parcels, it will be announcements via news release and announcements on the park's social media.
