The National Park Service (NPS), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will soon begin road improvements in two locations at Erbie in Newton County.
Visitors and local residents will see road closures on Newton County Road 2900 at Cecil Creek during the replacement of the Cecil Creek low water crossing beginning the week of September 30, 2019. The Erbie-Compton Road (Newton County Road 2700) will be closed for road repairs beginning in late December 2019. These improvements are scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2020.
Trails, historic structures, campgrounds and river access in the Erbie area of Buffalo National River will not be impacted by the project. Alternative routes Newton 2500 and Newton 2800 will remain open to access popular points of interest.
