Missouri man dies after day at Buffalo National River

 At approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 4, Newton County Dispatch notified the park's dispatch center of a man that was having trouble breathing at Upper Pruitt. Rangers arrived to find 66 year old James Long of Springfield, Missouri unresponsive. Life saving procedures were in progress by Newton County Deputies and park rangers assisted until an ambulance arrived on scene. Long was pronounced dead at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center a short time later.   

It was reported that Mr. Long was recreating by the river and when he started walking back to his vehicle he collapsed. The National Park Service appreciates the efforts made by everyone involved and offers our deepest condolences to the family.
