BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER 402 N WALNUT HARRISON, AR 72601 870/365-2700 870/365-2701 FAX Press Release For Immediate Release Contact:Chuck Bitting: chuck_bitting@nps.gov Phone:870/365-2762 BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT FOR FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT Buffalo National River (BNR) has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) and is seeking public comment for the proposed Facilities Improvements project to determine if the project could potentially result in any significant impacts to the natural or human environment. BNR has also prepared a Floodplains Statement of Findings in accordance with Director's Order 77-2: Floodplain Management. The purpose of the project is to improve vehicle and pedestrian access to the river at Rush and Hasty Landings, provide parking space at the Spring Creek Trailhead, and improvements to the Lost Valley Trail for hiker safety and to ensure compliance with standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). At this time, we are initiating a public review period for the EA and the Floodplain Statement of Findings that will be open for 30 days. During this review period, the public is invited to identify any issues or concerns they may have with the proposed project and effects analysis presented in the EA. A limited number of printed copies of the EA may be found at the Boone County Public Library and BNR Headquarters in Harrison, AR. An electronic copy of the EA may be found and comments may be submitted online at:https://parkplanning.nps.gov/buff or by mailing them to: Facilities Improvements EA at the address above. - NPS - |
