All areas of the buffalo received some precipitation (less than 0.02 of an inch in some places). NPS fire fighters will continue to monitor the controlled fires until declared out as well as and look for other possible wildfires that were reported. As conditions dry out there may be "hold overs." The closure in the "duckhead" area of the Lower Buffalo Wilderness has been lifted. In all recently burned areas visitors should be cautioned that stump holes, dead logs, and dead standing trees may continue to burn for several days. Hikers and horseback riders should also be aware that fire-weakened timber may continue to fall across trails and in the woods during wind events. The weather forecast for the next 5 to 7 days shows above average temperatures and dry conditions so extra vigilance should be maintained with respect to fires. |
