BOSTON — Boston National Historical Park today announced the start of rehabilitation work on historic Building 107 at the Charlestown Navy Yard. The project will preserve an important part of the Navy Yard's history while creating a modern headquarters for park operations.

The National Park Service, in partnership with the National Park Foundation, hosted public officials and community stakeholders to kick off the building's approximately $50.2 million renovation. The project is funded through the Legacy Restoration Fund established by the Great American Outdoors Act, which President Donald J. Trump signed into law in 2020 to address deferred maintenance and improve infrastructure across America's national parks and public lands.

"Building 107 represents an important piece of our park's history," said Boston National Historical Park Superintendent Tarona Armstrong. "Today, this renovation gives us an opportunity to preserve the building's legacy while creating a modern, sustainable and accessible headquarters for the future."

Built in 1904, Building 107 is a national historic landmark that housed skilled tradespeople who operated and maintained Charlestown's bustling Navy Yard. The National Park Service received possession of the building in 1985 and has since used it as a facilities workshop, office space and a home for the park's museum and archive collections.

Once complete, this project will bring together the park's administrative, maintenance, stewardship, interpretation and curatorial teams under one roof, creating a more efficient workplace while preserving the historic character of a building that anchored the Charlestown Navy Yard for generations.
