What's Open/Closed Overview

• The parkway road is open for driving year-round. However severe weather and road maintenance work may cause temporary closures. Check the Closures section below for details.
• Most concession operations have closed for the winter. Additional details available at Operating Hours and Seasons
• Most visitor centers and park stores have closed for the winter. The Folk Art Center, Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, and North Carolina Museum of Minerals remain open year-round. Additional details available at Operating Hours and Seasons
• Campgrounds are closed for the winter.
• Most picnic areas are closed for the winter.
• Trails are open.
• Backcounrty Campsites are open. Permits are required for overnight stays. See Backcountry Camping for more info.

Road Closures

Weather conditions, maintenance projects or emergency events may cause temporary road closures along the parkway. The chart below lists distinct sections of the parkway oriented from north to south, and organized by gate locations with route information at the various access and exit points.

Weather Closures: Much of the parkway is located at high elevation, where it is colder, wetter, and windier than in the surrounding communities. The parkway may need to be closed due to ice, snow or downed trees—even at times when the weather at lower elevations is warm and pleasant. In spring and fall, ice may persist in tunnels long after temperatures have warmed outside the tunnels.

Note: The previously available road closure map has been taken offline due to technical issues causing inaccuracies in the map. The following table is provided as a temporary solution until the map can be replaced with a system that will display real-time closure information through existing, widely used traffic Apps.

• Otter Creek Restaurant (Milepost 60.8) south of Buena Vista, VA is closed.
• Bluffs Lodge is closed.
• Rocky Knob Cabins are closed.
