National Park Service staff will begin to remove tree debris from roadways, gravel roads and multiple use trails throughout Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Major ice storms resulted in fallen trees across 60 miles of roadway. While routes are currently accessible, many trees and limbs litter and encroach upon road corridors.

Crews will remove all remaining debris and fully open established road corridors. During the project, all routes will remain accessible and open. Visitors should plan for minor delays while traveling.

The affected routes include:

  1. Alfred Smith Road
  2. Divide Road
  3. Duncan Hollow Bypass Multiple Use Trail
  4. Duncan Hollow Road
  5. East Bandy Creek Road
  6. Fork Ridge Multiple Use Trail
  7. Fork Ridge Road
  8. Gar Blevins Multiple Use Trail
  9. Guy Kidd Cemetery Road
  10. Hatfield Ridge Multiple Use Trail
  11. Laurel Hill Multiple Use Trail
  12. Stoopin’ Oak Multiple Use Trail
  13. Terry Cemetery Multiple Use Trail
  14. Terry Cemetery Road
  15. Twin Arches Road
  16. Watson Cemetery Multiple Use Trail
  17. West Bandy Creek Road.
The project is expected to be completed by this summer.
