Beginning October 3, 2022, park staff will replace the aging Mine-18 area septic system which serves the Blue Heron Visitor Center, and Concession Stand.Through an interagency partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers, this project will remove and replace three underground septic tanks and one sewage lift station. A new leeching field will also be constructed. The current sewage system is outdated and will be replaced with a more efficient and environmentally sound system.
In the interest of visitor safety, the entire area behind the concession stand, as well as portions of the lower parking lot, will be cordoned off for the duration of the construction period. There will be continued access to the boat launch as well as the horse trails in the area. In the event that water supplies require disconnection for construction needs, temporary portable toilets will be made available for public use.
Minor delays should be anticipated when travelling through these areas. Work is expected to be completed Spring 2023.
