Park staff have completed the repair and rehabilitation of Yahoo Falls Picnic Area. Fifteen picnic sites received fresh gravel pads, new picnic tables and cooking grills. Trails leading to each site were also resurfaced. Parking areas at each picnic site were repaired and the large picnic pavilion was repaired and painted. The picnic table fire rings, grills, seating, and picnic tables were all replaced.“Big South Fork is thrilled to welcome visitors to this renovated picnic area, and it is our hope that they will enjoy the park and take home positive memories that will last a lifetime,” said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas.
The picnic shelter was built in the 1960s as part of the original development of the Yahoo Falls area. The site was originally developed by the U.S. Forest Service when the area was known as the Cumberland National Forest. The forest was renamed the Daniel Boone National Forest in 1968. The land was transferred to the National Park Service for inclusion in the Big South Fork NRRA in 1987. The Yahoo Falls area is located off Route 700, northwest of Whitley City, Kentucky.
