The National Park Service (NPS) is planning for the remediation of contaminated mine drainage sites throughout Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, NPS is releasing a contaminated mine drainage mitigation and treatment, programmatic, and site specific Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

The purpose of this document is to address contaminated mine drainage remediation and to create a programmatic approach to considering future treatment options at former mining sites throughout the entire park. These actions will address the need to improve water quality and recreational opportunities in the Big South Fork River and tributaries.

The FEIS is anticipated to be published in the Federal Register on December 21, 2018. The FEIS is currently available online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/BISO.
