Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area is requesting assistance in locating persons responsible for burglary and theft of government property within the park. On early Friday, May 27, 2022, two white males broke into Blue Heron Train Depot facility and caused significant damage to multiple facilities, destroyed, and stole government property. The individuals were seen driving an older model black or dark color SUV. The vehicle had a trailer attached to it during part of the time of the break-in.
Surveillance footage showed one individual wore a yellow rain jacket with a white bandana on his head and a red one covering his face. He had cargo shorts on over leggings. The other individual wore a black hoodie with the hood up, jeans, and work boots. That individual had a black bandana covering his face and was wearing part of the time a military style backpack with an abundance of webbing attachments and black carabiners attached.
Park rangers have recovered fingerprints that were left at the scene of the crime, as well as video footage from the area, which include the two males. Anyone with information concerning these incidents is encouraged to contact the NPS at 423-223-4330, or leave a confidential message on the Resource Protection Tip Line at 423-569-7301. The 24-hour tip line allows callers to remain anonymous.
