The National Park Service will be hosting a science meeting on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Historic Rugby Visitor Center in Rugby, Tennessee. Scientists who have been conducting research at Obed Wild & Scenic River and Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area are invited to present their research. This meeting is free and open to the public and offers an opportunity for all to learn about the newest scientific developments in two Upper Cumberland Plateau national parks.

The overall goal of the science meeting is to facilitate an increased understanding of the ecosystems of the parks, enhance communication and collaboration among the public and researchers, and encourage future scientific investigations. A new incentive will be offered to full time students who would like to present at the meeting in 2018. Two nights of free park housing will be offered for April 17 and 18; housing space is limited, so contact the park as soon as possible to reserve a room.

Poster presentations at the end of the workshop will provide an opportunity for less formal dialogue with the scientists. “This is our third consecutive year for the Big South Fork NRRA and Obed Wild and Scenic River science meeting.  Past presentations and posters have been excellent, and we know that this year’s meeting will be even better!” said Niki Stephanie Nicholas, park superintendent.

Please contact Etta Spradlin at (423) 569-9778 or etta_spradlin@nps.gov if you are interested in presenting at the 2018 Big South Fork NRRA and Obed Wild & Scenic River science meeting or if would like to request free housing.
