Big Hole National Battlefield's Visitor Center to be Closed for Two Days

Big Hole National Battlefield's visitor center will be closed Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2, 2017 for the installation of new carpet. The rest of the park remains open for public access. The visitor center will reopen on Wednesday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m.

The battlefield is located 10 miles west of from Wisdom, MT on State Highway 43. From Lost Trail Pass junction with US Highway 93, on the Montana and Idaho border, take State Highway 43 east for 16 miles.

Big Hole National Battlefield commemorates the tragic events of the Nez Perce Flight of 1877, when the 7th U.S. Infantry pursued Nez Perce families through Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. On August 9-10, 1877, nearly eight weeks into the conflict, between 60 – 90 Nez Perce men, women, elders, and children, and 31 soldiers/civilian volunteers lost their lives at the Battle of the Big Hole, one of the bloodiest conflicts in the history of the American West.
