Big Cypress National Preserve Issues Annual Temporary ORV Recreational Use Closure

Ochopee - Big Cypress Natioanal Preserve is closing all Off-Road Vehicle trails, for recreational use, effective 12:01 A.M., Tuesday, June 01, 2021 for all units of the original Preserve as required by policy. This closure will be rescinded on 11:59 P.M., Friday, July 30, 2021. All units of the original Preserve will be closed temporarily to all ORV recreational use during this time.

The annual closure is necessary for visitor and resource protection as outlined in the 2000 Final Recreational Off-Road Vehicle Recreational Plan Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. 

Big Cypress National Preserve staff consulted with our partners in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regarding this matter and have agreed to implement this closure.

Signs will be posted in appropriate places throughout the Preserve.
