Internship Opportunities at Bandelier:

Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve have a GIS Internship available. Deadline to apply is 8/4/2024

This internship will assist the Resource Management division at Bandelier National Monument with cultural program support and will work with the Valles Caldera National Preserve's Interpretation division to design and develop maps and graphics to convey park information and interpretive themes.


This GIS Internship program was created in 2020. It is partnership with between the National Park Service and Southern Utah University. Current students studying GIS or recent graduates can apply. This includes undergraduate, graduate, PhD students. Candidates can intern in any NPS park unit, region, or program. This program is nationwide. It provides interdisciplinary professional development experience in a unique NPS setting. Interns develop critical GIS skills needed to succeed in the federal government. They will use geospatial technology to support a variety of park management operations. This includes:

  • Natural and cultural resource preservation
  • Planning and environmental compliance
  • Facility asset and transportation management
  • Visitor and resource protection
  • Resource interpretation and visitor engagement
