Virginia District Closures on Assateague Island National Seashore

Due to extensive damage from Hurricane Erin storm and tidal surge all of the Chincoteague Beach and all Beach Parking is closed until further notice. The Tom’s Cove Visitor Center is also closed.

The Beach parking lots were completely overwashed, badly scoured and in some places are under five feet of sand.

The public is strongly discouraged from trying to come to the beach area, as heavy construction equipment is in use which creates a dangerous situation.
