Sit! Stay! Science!

two dog with payload communication manager

Did you know Lewis and Clark did science experiments during their expedition, just like astronauts do in space? All the experiments inside the International Space Station are controlled from the Payload Operations Center at NASA’s Marshall Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, Ala. When I visited, Penny Pettigrew let me talk to astronauts during a spacewalk and even help them conduct science experiments. I learned the importance of teamwork and communication, just like Lewis and Clark. Penny is a payload communications manager, or PAYCOM, who enables scientists around the world to talk to crew members as they do their research.
