White Clay Creek Wild and Scenic River

Happy 20 years to White Clay Creek - designated on October 24, 2000! This northeastern river runs through Pennsylvania and Delaware with a total of 199 miles designated (including an additional nine miles that were designated in 2014). One of the reasons White Clay Creek is so unique is that it was the first time an entire watershed, rather than a segment of river, was designated into the Wild and Scenic Rivers system. By using this approach, land managers and river stewards take into account the land use changes that can affect the river and its water quality. We are celebrating this river by highlighting some of their water quality efforts, the remarkable people working to make more stretches of the river free-flowing, and the fishermen you can find along White Clay Creek who give far more than they take out.
