Puma Profiles: P-17

Kitten among wood chips and brush.

Female
Initial capture date: Spring 2010

This young kitten was abandoned by her mother, P-13, after three months. Although anticoagulants were found in her system, the official cause of death was ruled as starvation. P-17 was born in a litter of three, with brother and sister, P-18 and P-19, respectively, in the spring of 2010, and it is thought that her abandonment may have been due to her not being able to keep up with her siblings, or her first-time mother not having the capacity to raise a litter of three. P-17’s father was P-12.
