Portraits of Acadia: Sean Orr
My position at Acadia is a Computer Support Specialist in March of 2024, but I have worn the flat hat previously as a Recreation Fee Technician for Acadia and started for the NPS at Mesa Verde National Park in the beginning of 2022.
I had wanted to join the NPS for some time prior to getting my position at Mesa Verde, but life just got in the way. I had always appreciated the NPS and its mission since I was younger. After getting my foot in the door at Mesa Verde, I got to understand the range of positions that the park service has to offer. After getting some time in grade, knowledge of federal land-management and trying to find the division that might fit my background I pursued Information Technology by shadowing, initially. I was lucky enough to find a position at Acadia with an entry level IT role.
As a Computer Support Specialist, I am the frontline technician for users to contact about various IT issues like hardware setup, printer management, software installation, running ethernet cable and many things in between. IT for the NPS have a wide scope of responsibilities to help the various divisions communicate together on projects, maintain servers for resource management and other divisions for collecting and storing data for research, and many other aspects.
There are many great experiences that I have had at Acadia. My family is from central Maine, and I’ve been visiting Acadia since I can remember. But not since I lived and worked here have, I really gotten to truly experience it more-so than my visits to the most featured attractions. Acadia has so much to offer as a resource with all its hiking trails, coastal scenery, various recreational activities through all the seasons, and so much more.
