Project Overview

The intersection of Frozen Niagara Road and Cave City Road in Mammoth Cave National Park will undergo an improvement project beginning in December 2025 and continuing until Fall 2026.

This project is designed to enhance safety and improve lines of sight for all motorists traveling through this area, ensuring a safer park experience for park visitors and staff.

The current layout of the intersection provides a limited range of visibility for motorists, creating potential safety concerns. Tour buses frequently use this intersection throughout the day taking tours to and from cave entrances. Buses returning to the visitor center must use the intersection that currently has restricted sightlines of vehicles approaching in the westbound lane of Cave City Road.

Improvements to the area will include:

  • Rerouting and realigning the intersection of Frozen Niagara Road and Cave City Road to provide increased visibility for motorists and tour bus operators.
  • Improved road signage and a permanent roadway gate.
  • Enhanced safety for all motorists at a busy intersection on a primary park roadway.
