Scout History Trail Procedures

Looking to earn patches for your scout group? Appomattox Court House NHP offers a Scout History Trail Service Project. The scout service project includes picking up trash and debris on the park's History Trail and answering questions about the history and natural resources in those areas.

To complete the Scout Patch Program scouts must hike a 4.5 mile trail completing questions within the village and the trail. The service project, trail, and questions will take around 6 hours to complete.

The park has Scout Ranger and Girl Scout Ranger patches available upon project completion. Please see the require forms and safety information below. To schedule a scout group to visit, please email APCO_SocialMedia@nps.gov.

Required Forms

  • All Scout are required to complete the OF-301A form, and have it signed by their parent/guardian.
  • All adults and scouts must be listed on the OF-301B form.
  • Scouts BSA and Girl Scouts (Juniors and above): Questions to be completed along the trail.
  • Cub and Brownie Scouts: Questions to be completed along the trail.

Safety Information

Due to traffic on Route 24, the park does not recommend walking on or across the road. When starting the trail you must drive to Lee's Headquarters Wayside and hike from there to the North Carolina Monument Wayside. We recommend bringing two cars (if possible), one to drop off the scouts and one to pick them up at the end of the trail.
