This fall a three year project to survey, identify and evaluate archeological resources within lands acquired in the last ten years will begin at Antietam National Battlefield. Under a contract with the National Park Service, archeologists with The Louis Berger Group, Inc. will conduct field work in an effort to identify and learn more about the battlefield landscape and the landscape of the farms and fields. The lands to be investigated were not covered during previous archeological surveys of the park. Battlefield staff are hoping the study can provide answers to specific battle related questions as well as provide more information about the location of other farm structures and their uses. For more information please contact Jane Custer, Chief, Cultural Resource Division at 301-432-7893. |
