Welcome to Juneau!

Alaska's capital city is one of two United States capitals that are not accessible by car. Arriving by plane, cruise ship, or ferry will give you access to the amazing views that surround Juneau. Bordered by the ocean, Juneau is nestled at the base of Mount Roberts and is teeming with unbounded adventure whether you are an accomplished outdoors person, a history buff, or just excited to explore somewhere new!

Stop by the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and learn about glaciers from knowledgeable National Forest Rangers. Take time to walk the numerous trails learning about local wildlife, plant life, and how life rebounds as glaciers retreat. There trails give you access to waterfalls, spawning salmon, and glacier views.

A little bit outside of town is Eagle Beach State Recreation Area. Beach trails provide views of eagles, whales, sea lions, and numerous other wildlife. This is a great site for beach combing and fishing, with primitive campsites available.

Take a hike up the Perseverance National Recreation Trail and immerse yourself in the gold mining history. This 3 mile round-trip hike takes you from downtown Juneau up to old gold mine ruins from the once bustling gold industry. Waterfalls, mountain goats, wild flowers, and amateur gold panners may all be seen from the trail.
