Park Rangers can bring the Anchorage Alaska Public Lands Information Center to your classroom!

If your school has video conferencing equipment, your class has the opportunity to experience a free LIVE, interactive visit with a park ranger. During the program, students will interact with the ranger by asking and answering questions. Park rangers present a virtual walkthrough of the exhibit hall showcasing natural, historical, and cultural features throughout the state. Wandering among the exhibits, viewers will receive a mini-tour of Alaska. Students will learn about recreation on public lands, as well as discover materials that educators can use in their classrooms. These ranger-led virtual programs are appropriate for grades K-12. The programs are free and are a great way to introduce your students to the amazing visitor center and the vast state of Alaska!

Objectives

After experiencing a visit, students will be able to:

• List 6 different Alaskan animals
• List the different ecosystems of forest, tundra, and marine environments

Duration

~ (30-45) minutes

Required Equipment

The Center's distance learning programs can be scheduled using various software platforms, often matching what teachers already use in their classrooms. If Zoom is the preferred method, it must be initiated by the teacher through their subscription, and an invitation sent to park staff presenters. Another option is to use WebEx with a separate phone line for audio.

Scheduling and Registration

All classes are free and requests are taken in the order in which they are received. The center's programs are offered August through May, Monday – Friday between 9:30 am- 4 pm Alaska Time. Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.
