Contact: Tim Cruze, 806-857-3151 FRITCH,Texas –Lake Meredith National Recreation Area will host the first ever Wildflower Weekend Friday, June 5th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Alibates Visitor Center. This spring, Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument has been treated to a spectacular display of wildflowers. Early bloomers such as Blackfoot Daisy, Lace Cactus, and Chocolate Flower have emerged in April and May. Displays of other countless wildflowers are in bloom; Star Thistle, Copper Globe Mallow, and many more have filled themes as and meadows with color. Every year we hope to celebrate this colorful show with an annual Wildflower Weekend. Join a specialist on a specialized guided hike and learn all about the different wildflowers. Other guided hikes, guest speakers, workshops, arts, garden tours, gardening and landscaping tips, photography, walks, and musical entertainment will take place during the event. Meet at the Alibates Visitor Center for events held from June 5-7. Call or come by park headquarters for more information and hike registration.
