Exhibit opening September 2025 on Alcatraz Island

Discover the occupations that launched the Native American movement for sovereignty, power and independence. Indigenous people rose up peacefully, seized their land back from the government and changed history.

Experience Welcome to Indian Land: Resistance, Resilience and Activism, a new exhibit about the Native American occupations of Alcatraz. In their time, the occupiers publicized injustices against Indigenous people and inspired ordinary people to take organized, nonviolent political action to create a more just society for all. May their story inspire you.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a member of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience. The coalition's goal is to connect past and present to envision a more just and humane future.
