Carriage Road Explorers
Grade 3
PROGRAM GOALS:
- To acquaint students with the history of Acadia National Park’s carriage roads.
- To encourage preservation of the carriage roads and a personal sense of stewardship.
- To help students appreciate the beauty and unique qualities of Acadia’s carriage roads.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
- Identify two people who were important to the story of the carriage roads and why they were important.
- Name three factors that people considered when designing and building the carriage roads.
- Identify two kinds of trees growing along the carriage roads.
- Describe how granite was cut to build the stone bridges.
- Name two parts of a bridge.
- Give one reason why Acadia’s carriage road system is worth preserving.
