- To explain and encourage conservation efforts
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
- Identify the four elements of habitat.
- Name two reasons why species become endangered.
- Identify three adaptations of the beaver and two adaptations of the peregrine falcon.

ALIGNMENT WITH MAINE’S LEARNING RESULTS FOR ELEMENTARY GRADES 3-4:
Science and Technology
A. Classifying Life Forms
Students will understand that there are similarities within the diversity of all living things.
Students will be able to:
- Describe the different living things within a given habitat (A-3)
- Compare and contrast the life cycles, behavior, and structure of different organisms (A-4).
B. Ecology
Students will understand how living things depend on one another and on non-living aspects of the environment.
Students will be able to:
- Describe a food web and the relationships within a given ecosystem (B-1).
- Investigate the connection between major living and nonliving components of a local ecosystem (B-4).
D. Continuity and Change
Students will understand that there are similarities within the diversity of living things.
Students will be able to:
- Explain how adaptations, in response to change over time, may increase a species' chances of survival (D-3).
K. Scientific Reasoning
Students will learn to formulate and justify ideas and to make informed decisions.
Students will be able to:
- Give alternative explanations for observed phenomena (K-1).
- Draw conclusions about observations (K-3).
- Practice and apply simple logic, intuitive thinking, and brainstorming (K-6).
